Dear Parent or Guardian,
Central Montana Health District Public Health, through routine contract tracing of a known
positive COVID-19 individual, has reason to believe your child may have been exposed to the
novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, a contagious disease. This disease may present a
serious health threat to your child and others. The purpose of this letter is to provide
instructions based on The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC's) guidance to limit
the transmission of COVID-19 to others.
If your child is fully vaccinated, (completing the Moderna or Pfizer 2-dose series or a single dose
of Janssen), he/she is recommended to wear a mask when out in public for 14 days after last day
of exposure to a positive COVID-19 case and get tested 3-5 days after exposure.
If your child is unvaccinated, he/she should quarantine for 10 days. If your child remains without
symptoms, they may be able to be released from quarantine after day 7 if he/she tests after day
5 or later and that test is negative.
Household members, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, do not need to quarantine unless
your child develops symptoms, tests positive for COVID-19, or other members of the household
develop symptoms and/or test positive.
Quarantine means separation of the exposed person from others who have not been exposed to
COVID-19 in order to prevent the spread of the disease. This separation means to stay home,
maintain at least 6 feet distance from others, and wear a mask if there is contact with others in
the home.
If your child develops the following symptoms, then contact your primary care provider, local
urgent care, or local emergency room for further guidance.
• New loss of taste or smell
• Fever or chills
• Cough
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Fatigue
• Muscle or body aches
• Headache
• Sore throat
• Congestion or runny nose
• Nausea or vomiting
Please contact the Central Montana Health District at 406-535-3983, from 8am-5pm, Monday
through Friday with any questions.
